Miss NI hopeful puts on her running shoes for charity

Charlotte helps Cancer Research to reach target

A LISBURN girl who is in the final of Miss Northern Ireland is gearing up to take part in another event before then - this year's Race for Life at the end of May.

Charlotte Kearney, 23, who recently won the title of Miss Belfast 2010, will take part in the Miss Northern Ireland final in June, wants to encourage other women in her home city to enter the event themselves and be one of 5000 women who will walk, jog or run 5k to help smash the fundraising target of £336,600 for Cancer Research UK's life-saving work.

Charlotte from Drumbeg, who was first runner-up in the Miss Student UK 2008 competition, spoke of her motivation for the run.

She said: Not only will it get me in shape for the Miss Northern Ireland final but it feels great doing something worth while for charity. Sadly my uncle was diagnosed with a brain tumour this year, and I lost my auntie to breast cancer, so I will be running for them. Even if people don't want to join in themselves they can help by sponsoring me."
