By Lagan banks

By Lagan banks, throughout the day
On Sunday we would stroll
In childhood days to swim and play
And watch the river roll

We saw the otter and the coot
Along the water’s edge
With net in hand we went barefoot
For spricks and newts to dredge

The same old path we would later trace
To pledge undying love
With racing heart and red of face
Beneath blue skies above

Those days are gone, the pledge unmet
We move on like Lagan’s flow
But I think that we shall ne’er forget
Those days of long ago
