WITH the festive season coming to a close and those waist bands a little tighter many of us will be trying to think of an activity to take up in January.

How about cycling? Marie Curie Cancer Care has a full calendar of events for 2012 with cycling being a favourite for many. Starting at Ireland's most northerly point, Malin Head, the charity is encouraging local people to cycle 430 miles over seven days, ending the challenge in Mizen Head in the south. Signing up in January means you have your goal set and deadline to work towards. You'll receive a training plan and fundraising help and Chain Reaction Cycles are on board to give advice wherever you may need it.

The Malin to Mizen Head Cycle Challenge will take place May 5-12, 2012.

"This event will be tough and exhilarating, but will be fantastically rewarding and suitable for anyone with a bit of grit, determination and willingness to work as part of a team" said a Marie Curie spokesperson.

For more information or to sign up go to www.mariecurie.org.uk/malintomizen or call 08700 340 040.
