Brief history as recorded in a book ‘Lisburn’s Rich Church Heritage’ by John Kelly

The congregation in Lagmore was formed in July 1997 and the Very Rev. John Forsythe, P.P., was appointed in August 1997. They met for worship in St. Luke’s, Twinbrook until the church was opened in Easter 1998.

The Primary School beside the church was opened in temporary accommodation in 1998 and the new school, with a capacity for 650 children, was opened in 1998. The Principal is Mrs Ita McIlhatton.

Previously within the Lagmore Parish there was a community of Franciscan Brothers.  Brother Owen O’Sullivan was involved in Parish work, another was Roman Catholic Chaplain at Maghaberry and another was involved in retreat work in various areas.  This work came to an end in the Summer of 2007 and Brother Owen O’Sullivan, who was appointed Curate at Lagmore in August 2001, left at this time.  The present Parish Priest, the Very Rev John Forsythe, was installed here in August 1997.
