THE Mayor of Lisburn is asking local golfers to putt themselves forward for a Charity Golf Day in aid of local charity' Carers Forum on Learning Disability'.

Lisburn Golf Club is hosting the fundraising event which is being sponsored by Coca-Cola on Thursday 12th May, and the Mayor, Alderman Paul Porter, is calling on golfing enthusiasts and local companies to participate and sponsor holes to raise funds for the Mayoral Charity.

Mr Porter, who is rumoured to be a decent golfer himself, teed off the appeal by saying the event is 'a perfect way for golfers to enjoy and support a good cause whilst playing a game'.

"It also offers local businesses the opportunity to sponsor one of the 18 holes so they can promote their brand in aid of charity."

The Charity Golf Day is the latest of a programme of fundraising activities that have been organised to support Mr Porter's Mayoral Charity, 'Carers Forum'.

"I would like to thank everyone who has supported the wide variety of events held so far including the table quiz and community carol service and would ask for your continued support" he said.

"I will continue to raise funds for my nominated charity during the remainder of my Mayoral Term and at the end of my year in office, I hope to present the Carers Forum with a notable contribution to assist in the valued work they do for those with a learning disability in the Lisburn area.

This Golf Day is another opportunity for people to provide their support to this worthwhile charity. I would also like to thank Lisburn Golf Club for hosting the event and Coca-Cola for their significant sponsorship of the event," he concluded.

Gillian McBrien, Public Relations Executive from Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland said they were delighted to have been invited to become title sponsor of the Charity Golf Day. "As a local company we have been investing in community and charitable projects for some 70 years and are proud to be partnering with Lisburn City Council to help raise much needed fund for this worthwhile cause." Registration for the event at Lisburn Golf Club begins at 11 am with a shotgun start at 12 noon. A bacon butty will be provided to each golfer before tee-off and then a buffet dinner will be served after all 'four balls' have completed the course. There will also be a prize giving ceremony and a ballot taking place after the golf.

Tickets are £150 for each four ball and a minimum of £100 to sponsor one of the 18 holes of the golf course. For further information on the Charity Golf Day contact the Mayor's Office on 028 9250 9331 or email mayor's. secretary@lisburn.gov.uk
