BROOKMOUNT Dance Ranch and Belsize Kickers Line Dance Club's have once again put their dancing shoes on to raise funds for charity by raising a magnificent £3,600 the Meningitis Research Foundation when they held their latest social night on Friday April 15.

Each year the club's have some boot scootin' fun as they raise money for charity and the night was held to celebrate yet another successful year of fundraising.

Class teacher Sharon Hendron said: "Our nominated charity for 2010/11 was the Meningitis Research Foundation, and we were delighted to present charity representatives Stephanie Annett and Trevor Ogborn, who both survived this life-threatening illness', with a cheque for £3,600."

There are around 3,300 cases of meningitis and septicemia — the blood poisoning form of the
disease, every year in the U K. This means a death still occurs almost every day and a further two people are left with severe after effects, such as brain damage, hearing loss and amputations.

Meningitis Research Foundation Ireland Manager Diane McConnell commented: "We are absolutely delighted that Brookmount Dance Ranch and Belsize Kickers Line Dance Clubs have supported Meningitis Research Foundation.

"It is only through the generosity and the hard work of the public that the Foundation is able to fund research, raise awareness and support those who have already been affected by meningitis and septicemia."

Sharon Hendron said: "I'm always amazed at the generosity of the club members, their friends and families, but this year, especially in the current financial climate, they nave really dug deep tor this very important charity. So I'd like to personally thank all those who supported our social nights, took part in line dance demonstrations, organized a ballot, and obtained sponsorship for a beard shave. Also those who went the extra mile by cycling around Lough Neagh."

Brookmount Dance Ranch and Belsize Kickers try to support a different charity every year and this latest effort brings the clubs' fund-raising total to £13,110. If anyone would like to join their fund-raising escapades and learn how to line dance at the same time the classes are Mondays and Thursdays from 7.30-9.30pm.
