Fort Hill pupils take to the slopes in Bulgaria

40 Year 9 and 10 pupils from Fort Hill College have just returned from a very successful ski trip to Pomporovo in Bulgaria.

Accompanied by staff Mr Richer, Mr Richardson, Mrs McCormick and Mrs Richer, they enjoyed a trip of a lifetime - a week of superb skiing in almost perfect conditions of deep snow and sunshine.

Pupils flew to Sofia airport, where they continued on to Pomporovo by coach. After about an hour's sleep and a quick breakfast, they headed for the ski slopes a short 10 - 15 minute bus ride away to be kitted out with their boots and skis, before meeting their coach's for the week.

Some pupils took to slopes quite naturally, while others found difficulty even standing still on their skis the

first day, however over the next few days the improvement was outstanding, as even the most nervous of pupils improved their techniques.

By the end of the week with two hours of lessons in the morning and again in the afternoon, all pupils were able to complete green runs, with three of the groups able to tackle blue and red runs and a short black run section for some of the more advanced.

Each evening pupils were able to take part in a variety of activities including bum boarding - hugely popular, 10 pin bowling, swimming, pool competitions, shopping for souvenirs or a disco.

The trip was an outstanding success, the pupils were a credit to their school with both the ski coach's, staff and other guests in the hotel commenting very favourably on their behaviour.
