Fort Hill High
School
Our setting is a beautiful wooded 20-acre site on the Belfast Road out of
Lisburn.
It is thought that the site of the school was originally that of an early
over the Lagan Valley : hence the name "Fort Hill."
In 1860 Robert Barbour of Barbour Threads at Hilden built a house called
"The Fort" on the site. At the beginning of the 20th century Robert left for
the USA to develop the linen trade there and the site lay vacant for some
years. In 1942 it became the home to some Belgium troops and a contingent of
the Welsh Fusiliers. After the Second World War the house was in disrepair
and the grounds were taken over by the County Antrim Education Authority who
later decided to build a school.
Fort Hill School came into existence in 1958. Over the past forty years the
school has promoted the best of traditional values and employed modern
teaching facilities and methods to ensure that all pupils achieve their
potential in a caring environment. |

Friends School Lisburn
Friends' School is one of nine Quaker schools in Britain and
Ireland and shares a common heritage with each of them. Friends' has grown
and changed since its foundation in 1774, yet the Quaker belief in care for
the individual and in the importance of the development of each person's
potential remains central to our ethos and helps us to cater successfully
for the different traditions within the wider community of Lisburn and the
surrounding areas.
I hope you will visit our website including that of the preparatory school
regularly to gain an insight into the whole school community and the range
