Glenavy
Glenavy has had a long history and until the 17th
century was called 'Lanaway' - meaning Church of the Dwarf -
with the dwarf in question being a priest who was installed by
St Patrick to look after the parish. Also of historic note is
the Crewe Hill where the ancient Kings of Ulidia (Eastern
Ulster) were crowned. Close by the village is The Ballance
House, birthplace of John Bllance who became Prime Minister of
New Zealand in 1891- it is open from April to September and
has exhibitions marking the links between Ulster and New
Zealand. |
Hillsborough Village Centre
Since being officially opened in December 2005 by Her Majesty The Queen,
Hillsborough Village Centre has become a hub of activity and a community
focal point which facilitates people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
The whole complex is a not-for-profit community venture and every penny of
income generated over and above running costs is re-invested to maintain and
improve the facilities and equipment available.
While our main focus is the community, we also provide state of the art
facilities for the commercial user in rooms equipped with boardroom
furniture, digital projectors, laptops, broadband access and a mounted
flatscreen TV with DVD player. The Centre can also take care of catering
requirements for any occasion. |
