Agricultural
Research Institute
The Institute was established in 1927 with the
aim of undertaking research into crop and animal
production. It is located at Large Park Hillsborough,
formerly the home farm of the Marquis of Downshire.
The Institute manages about 200 ha of land.
The research project leaders are staff of the
Agriculture Group within the Agricultural and
Environmental Science Division of the Department of
Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD). |

The College Estate is
comprised of several farms and units which are
combined to form three Agriculture Development Centres
and a Horticulture Development Centre. The Walled
Garden, grounds and recreational areas combine to form
the Amenity Horticulture Centre. With its farms,
units, nature trail, ponds and woodland areas, the
Estate fully demonstrates the principles and practices
of efficient food production and good countryside
management.

The Ulster Farmers'
Union is the democratic voluntary organisation
representing farmers and growers in Northern Ireland.
It's central objective is to promote their interests
both at home and abroad through professional lobbying.
The Ulster Farmers' Union takes a close interest in
rural affairs and services, and works with politicians
both in the U.K. and Internationally, and other groups
and organisations to advance rural interests. It has
particularly close links with consumer groups,
countryside and wildlife bodies, animals welfare

later. YFC members live on farms, in the
countryside, towns, villages, in big houses, small
houses, bungalows and terrace houses. They work in

roads, either digging them up or driving over the pot
holes. They drive tractors, Skodas, Fords, Vans and
