The Revd Simon Richardson has been appointed as
the new rector of St Malachy’s, Hillsborough. Simon
has been curate at St Malachy’s since 2006 and prior
to that he was assistant curate in Folkestone. He
succeeds the Revd John Dinnen, who retired on 31st
December 2007.
A date for Mr Richardson’s Institution at
Hillsborough Parish has still to be arranged.
A spokesperson for the Diocese of Down and Dromore
recalls: “It is a rare occurrence that someone
serving a curacy in a parish is then appointed
rector when the parish becomes vacant. We are not
aware of a similar instance of this happening since
1954 when the Revd Ernest Shepherd, who served his
curacy in St John’s, Whitehouse, was then appointed
Incumbent, where he remained until his retirement in
1996”. |
