LISNAGARVEY Operatic Society helped to make Christmas wishes come true for nearly 400 children and their families when they staged a special performance of their pantomime 'Cinderella' for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The event, which was sponsored by Forestside Shopping Centre, was a special treat for local wish children who are living with life-threatening illnesses, and the main aim is for them to have lots of fun in the run up to Christmas. This year Make-AWish Foundation in Northern Ireland was overwhelmed with the response, with 375 attendees on the day it was a packed house.

Wish Children were greeted by the Knights of the Empire Star Wars Troopers, with magicians and face painters keeping the children busy while everyone waited for Santa to arrive.

The event was formally opened by Lisburn Councillor Brian Heading and John Daly, NI Ambassador of Make-A-Wish Foundation UK hejped the children to count down the start of the pantomime.

John commented: "We are delighted to continue to work in partnership with Forestside Shopping Centre as Make-A-Wish Foundation UK works so hard in Northern Ireland and really benefits from Forestside's support. It is wonderful that they have agreed to sponsor the pantomime for all these local children, who really deserve a fun, family day out."

Make-A-Wish Foundation UK grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. Make-A-Wish was founded in the UK in June 1986 and, since then, has granted over 5,000 wishes. At any given time, over 20,000 children in the UK are living with life-threatening conditions and their aim is to grant 21 wishes a week by the year 2010.
