Sandra is first female president of Lisburn

A LISBURN businesswoman has been elected as
the first female president of the Rotary Club of Lsiburn in its
54-year history.
Sandra McCabe, who owns Oasis Travel, took up
the post last Friday watched by members of her family.
It was made even more special as Sandra's late
father, Leslie, was a stalwart of the club for many years.
"I feel privileged and honoured to take up the
position," she said.
Sandra joined Rotary five years ago when an
invitation to join the club was extended to women.
"There are now three females in the club. Ellen
Hillen joined on the same day as me and Helen Coulter is now a
member too.
" Speaking as she took up her new post, Sandra
said she hoped to ensure the club would continue to thrive,
meeting the needs of a changing society yet always striving to
attain the ideals of the Rotary movement.
She also said it was her intention to
continue to encourage close involvement with the community
during her year in office.
And she said she was delighted with the support
she has received from members from the club. "The support from
the members has been outstanding and I am looking forward to my
year. I have received many cards and words of encouragement and
am looking forward to the lots of good things planned for the
year ahead.
"I have a good committee behind me and I
would like to pay tribute to them all as they have been
absolutely fantastic members. This gives me confidence to carry
out my duties.
"A lot of work has been carried out by club
members and to date the plans which have been presented are very
encouraging."
"I am delighted to hold this position and am
looking forward to ensuring the work of the club is carried
out," she added.
