St Kieran's Primary School pupils push `up the tempo'

Pupils Niame Corr and Clara Jackson from St Kierans Primary School, Poleglass got top musical tips from the Ulster Orchestra's Gareth Hopkins. Also in the photo are Joanne McKee, centre, and Maureen Stevenson right, of the Ulster Bank.

PUPILS from St Kierans Primary School in Poleglass recently took part in a music workshop led by an Ulster Orchestra musician as part of the 'Up the Tempo' programme, which takes music to primary schools across the country.

Each school involved receives a series of music workshops with Ulster Orchestra and National Concert Hall musicians focusing on tempo. counting and numbers.

The workshops aim to encourage the children to compose, learn and listen.

It will all culminate with the schools coming together in May to see the Ulster Orchestra at the National Concert Hall. The pupils will give a performance of their own compositions before the concert.

This is one of a number of projects supported by Ulster Bank's community investment programme.
