Congratulations to the Rev Jack Richardson who has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year's honours list for services to the community in Northern Ireland.

Mr Richardson has made a significant contribution to the community in Lisburn for the past 24 years. In addition to providing spiritual leadership and the pastoral work that he has undertaken amongst his congregation he has also worked as a senior Chaplain at the Lagan Valley Hospital for the past 17 years, providing counselling and support for all patients. He has developed interdenominational links with his fellow Chaplains both locally and through the Hospital Chaplains Association. He is a Board Member of Lisnagarvey High School. He has been involved in fundraising efforts to support local charities. As a keen organist he has participated in 10 marathon organ recitals and the money raised was used for local charitable causes. He is a strong supporter of health, education, the Church and policing in the local community. The annual Christmas Carol Service he arranges is a focus for all people of all denominations and for the City of Lisburn. As Minister of Hillhall Presbyterian Church he has served his own congregation and also the wider Lisburn Community.

Mr Richardson, previously in Carland and Newmills, was installed in Hillhall on 4th June 1982 in succession to the Rev. Hugh Young who retired in 1981 and died in April 2006. During Mr Richardson's ministry a new suite of halls were opened in May 1987 and a manse in 1995. The church halls were destroyed in an arsonist attack in November 1999 and built and reopened in September 2002.

Mr Richardson preached the final service in his active ministry on Sunday afternoon 24th December 2006 (Christmas Eve). A Social Evening was held in Hillhall Presbyterian Church Hall on Thursday 28th December in honour of the Rev Jack Richardson and Mrs Sally Richardson on the occasion of Mr Richardson's retirement as the minister of Hillhall Presbyterian Church after nearly 25 years of exemplary service.

The Rev Jack Richardson, B.A., B.D., MBE., is now Minister Emeritus of Hillhall Presbyterian Church. The Rev Adrian McLernon, Minister of Drumbo Presbyterian Church will be in charge of the vacancy at Hillhall until a new Minister is appointed.
