40th Anniversary celebrations of Derryvolgie Parish Girls Brigade

Last week a series of events were held to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the formation of 182nd Derryvolgie Parish Girls Brigade in 1966 during the Captaincy of the late Mrs Ray McCann.

The Display was held on Thursday and Friday evenings and the Guest of Honour on Friday evening was Mrs Helen McCrory.  Helen congratulated the Captain, Officers and girls on a wonderful display and further congratulated them on reaching this important milestone in the history of the Company.

On Saturday night, members past and present met for a meal in Dunmurry Golf Club and enjoyed a great evening of fun and fellowship, sharing many recollections of happy memories of 40 years of Derryvolgie Parish Girls Brigade.

A Service of Thanksgiving held in the Church on Sunday afternoon brought the week of celebrations to an end.  The Rector, the Rev. Donna Quigley, led the service assisted by Jack Hassard - Diocesan Reader and Mrs Karen Henry - Captain.  The guest speaker was Miss Angie McKee - CEF Youth worker.  Angies address entitled Walking in the light of Christ was taken from 1 John 1: 5 - 10.
